VETERANS FAMILY Coffee 4 Vets On Tuesday the essential weekly veterans gathering opened with Vietnam veteran and Pastor Ken Hart opening with prayers and comfort for Marine veteran Tony Tortolano who lost his adult son Ryan after a year of illness, challenge, adversity and advocacy. Pastor Hart and the veteran family joined in prayers for love and “the peace that passeth human understanding” for veteran brother Tony and his son. 250 years of the U.S. Army

Today, marks 250 years of the U.S. Army serving and defending our country. No matter the challenges the Army has faced along with our nation, Army Soldiers and Civilians have had the courage and patriotism to answer the call to serve. The history of the United States Army began in 1775. From its formation, the United States Army has been the primary land based part of the United States Armed Forces On June 14, 1775, the Second Continental Congress decided to proceed with the establishment of a Continental Army for purposes of common defense adopting the forces already in place outside Boston (22,000 troops) and New York (5,000). It also raised the first ten companies of Continental troops on a one-year enlistment, riflemen from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia to be used as light infantry, who later became the 1st Continental Regiment in 1776. On June 15, the Congress elected George Washington as Commander-in-Chief by unanimous vote.

Coffee4VETS Morning Breakfast – May 15, 2025 – Santa Clarita 

THUNDERBOLT PILOT HONORED – On the occasion of his 102nd birthday WWII “Greatest Generation” Pilot, Lt. Ken Placek was honored at Coffee 4 Vets in Santa Clarita. After the war, Placek transitioned into a successful career in insurance. Among his wartime accomplishments, 95 missions braving Nazi flak in tactical missions to take out enemy materiel, munitions, emplacements and, well, enemy. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and more than a dozen awards of the Air Medal. At Thursday’s gathering at Crazy Otto’s in Santa Clarita he was honored and recognized by representatives for Congressman George Whitesides, state Sen. Suzette Valladares, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, City of Santa Clarita, and of course, to thunderous acclaim by the veterans of Coffee4Vets. On hand to witness his honors were his grown sons, Paul and Gregg, photogaphed with their Dad.
