Vet Talk
Vet Talk is the brainchild of Juan Blanco, Coffee4VETS’ founder and president. Juan started Vet Talk during the pandemic as a way to help veterans work through the difficulties of being isolated, sheltering at home, and social distancing. Vet Talk became crucial in keeping the veteran community connected.
In continuing with the same spirit of keeping the veteran community connected. Vet Talk is being relaunched. The series will feature 1 monthly question answered by our Veteran community. The monthly question will cover a broad scope of topics, ranging from their lives before, during, and after service.
This month’s question is: What did you learn from your military service.
Thank You Staff Sgt. Pacola Age(Retired) for your service and for taking the time to answer this month’s question.
President's Message

Welcome to October 2026!!!
This month we keep on the top of our list is the US Navy’s Birthday. Tracing back to the colonial era, Saling ships were essential in the growth of the colonies and later became the seafaring strength that helped establish the nation. Once limited to men, the Navy now includes women serving in equal roles. Happy Birthday United States Navy.
October is more than a month — it’s a reminder that breast cancer awareness must remain a priority year-round. Numerous women have been diagnosed with this disease and continue fighting; may we keep all who have faced cancer in our prayers, support their journey to recovery, and aid the dedicated medical professionals working to eradicate it permanently.
Veterans, the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act, HR 9237, underwent debate in July and has been temporarily postponed. While the bill consolidates upwards of 60 veteran measures, doubts have been voiced about how it will be funded. As the bill is currently written, Section 108 would apply the new rating criteria for sleep apnea and tinnitus claims after the bill is enacted. This Section 108 directly addresses changes to the disability compensation rating but the broader legislation aids other important issues such as Combat-injured military retirees, Gold Star and surviving spouses, ALS survivors along with automotive assistance for severely disabled veterans, caregivers, traumatic brain injury and suicide prevention. We will continue to follow HR9237.
This October we celebrate 5 years hosting Coffee4VETS in Santa Clarita at the Crazy Ottos Diner located at 19132 Soledad Canyon Road. Our veterans there include many Vietnam era veterans; Cold War veterans and we have had the pleasure of hosting 2 WWII veterans. Don Cool Kuhl who served in artillery during the war and made to the wonderful age of 101, and Ken Placid, a fighter pilot who flew the P47 fighter plane in Italy and who is still with us today at the great age of 103. Our goal remains the same, helping our veterans get to know one another, pass on information that is useful to not only the veteran but their spouses and family members. To help them get access to VSO’s (veteran services offices) and to receive the service’s due them. I am thankful for all the veterans who served and are inspirations to our younger war fighters. Thank you for your service.
Before ending. I want to wish you all a very safe and exciting Halloween. Have a spooktacular time.
