GREATEST GENERATION STILL GOT IT! WWII veteran William “Bill” Babajian who served in the Pacific during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 was honored today at Coffee4Vets on the occasion of his 98th birthday. Bill flexed his muscles before receiving Certificates of Recognition from Congressman Mike Garcia, also a Navy veteran and fighter pilot. Garcia’s aide presented the recognition along with similar honors from Assemblyman Tom Lackey and state Sen. Scott Wilk. “Do I get money?” Babajian joked. Then he added, “Why are we doing this?” “Because you’re a national treasure,” Carlo Basail, an aide for Lackey said. “Your name sounds Armenian,” Babajian said. Christine Ward presented for Rep. Garcia. Basail presented for Lackey and Brandon Roque for Wilk.

Coffee4VETS Morning Breakfast – February 27, 2024 

COFFEE4VETS TUESDAY – At Crazy Otto’s Diner longtime host Jin Hur was recognized and honored by Congressman Mike Garcia, Assembly Members Juan Carrillos and Tom Lackey, also County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and City of Lancaster via Councilwoman Lauren Hughes Leslie. Councilwoman Leslie installed the new Board. Every Tuesday 7-9 a.m. at Crazy Otto’s the best briefing to help veterans live better with elected representatives informing on legislation, nonprofits describing services, VA and representatives explaining claims process. It’s all there. Veterans where the coffee is free and the camaraderie is priceless. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRED BARTHE

HONOR FLIER – HAPPY BIRTHDAY FIGHTING SAILOR – Fred Barthe, Lt. Cmdr. U.S. Coast Guard Ret. started his military career in the Navy during the Korean War when he was combat air crew in a Skyraider off a carrier deck. Fred Barthe is a stalwart full spectrum volunteer Coffee 4 Vets Vets 4 Veterans Antelope Valley Honor Flight Kern County and for other veteran community projects like The Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall – AV Wall. Donna Carrion got the video of birthday well wishes at 90. Donna Carrion additional photos. Anthony Kitson another Korean War Era vet who served in Southeast Asia for most of the Vietnam War thanked Fred for getting him signed up for Honor Flight Kern County veterans travel all expense paid to Washington D.C. They get one of the best briefings weekly about veterans, by veterans and for veterans. Tuesday 7-9 a.m. where the coffee for vets is free, and breakfast on discount for those who served the nation in difficult times. High Desert Medical Group is a proud supporter of Coffee4Vets. U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy cites loneliness and isolation as a major health threat. Social connection is the cure.
